Sizing
What size lifting belt do I get?
Do not use your pant size to determine the size of your lifting belt. Use a tape measure to size your waist, the area between your ribs and hips. Pull the tape measure tight for the best measurement. Our belts are designed to be worn tight around the waist. The more secure the belt, the more support and stabilization it provides.
If you are between sizes and plan to stay the same size or shred, we recommend the smaller of the two sizes. If you plan on bulking, go a size up. With the bigger size you can always punch extra holes to make it smaller, but you cannot go bigger with a smaller belt.
You want your belt as tight as possible while still allowing a full breath into the belly. If you cannot do this without rising up, it is too tight. You will probably find you need the belt a little looser for deadlifts than for squats because of the deadlift starting position. The belt may feel uncomfortable at first, before it is broken in.
What size gloves do I get?
Steel Sweat gloves are designed to mold to your hand with use for a comfortable fit. Measure the circumference of your palm just below your knuckles, not including your thumb. Our gloves are generally true to size. If you are between sizes and prefer a snug fit, select the smaller size; if you prefer a looser fit, go with the larger option.
Always check sizing before ordering. Sizes of some styles can vary slightly.
Using your gear
How do I make my gloves more grippy?
Other customers have found that using chalk on their gloves increases their grip.
Do the wrist wraps come in a right and left pair?
All Steel Sweat wrist wraps come in pairs. The thumb loops are positioned so you can wear one wrap on your right hand and the other on your left.
How do I wear my wrist wraps?
- Starting with your left hand, insert your thumb through the loop with your palm facing down.
- Pass the wrap around your wrist, counter-clockwise.
- Pull the wrap around, experimenting with the tension to see what suits you best.
- When it is fully wound, secure the wrist wrap with the velcro fastener.
- Once secured, you can unhook the loop from your thumb if you prefer.
How do I use lifting straps?
- Thread the ends of the straps through the loops to form circles.
- Slide your hands through the circles and pull the ends until the straps fit snugly around your wrists.
- Wrap the end of the strap around the bar: under the bar from back to front, then over the top and under again.
- Place your hands over the straps to hold them in place. If it is uncomfortable, re-wrap.
- Roll the bar toward you until the straps are tight and pull on your wrists.
- Lift the weight without forcing your wrists to hold all of it. The straps let your wrists assist your grip on the bar.
Care
How do I care for my Steel Sweat product?
We want your Steel Sweat gear to keep looking and feeling great, so here are a few care tips. For stubborn stains, use a stain remover designed for the material you are treating, available at department stores or shoe repair shops, and read its instructions carefully.
Non-leather products: hand wash in tepid water with mild soap and a soft toothbrush, or gently machine wash cold on a short delicate cycle without spin drying. Wind up and secure any velcro before washing to avoid fabric damage. Lay on a towel, pat dry with another, and leave to dry flat away from direct sunlight. Allow to dry fully before use.
Leather products: a dry foam or gel cleaner lifts general stains from suede, leather and nubuck. Apply a good quality leather conditioner to nourish and protect. For stubborn stains use a traditional cleaning block. Never submerge leather in water, never use bleach, and keep it out of direct sunlight while drying. A natural fibre brush works best on leather; a soft metal or rubber-bristled brush works better on suede and nubuck.
PU products: wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth. Allow to dry fully before use and keep out of direct sunlight.
